Controller
Vanworks has been on an impressive track record for almost 50 years. Not many companies in the van conversion business can say that. Not many can say that they have achieved and enjoy RVIA certification, or that they are a Mercedes Benz Expert Upfitter. We’re in a pretty exclusive league; certainly so in Northern Colorado.
We run our business with more precision than what our customers would expect in the Mercedes we sell them. Though our showroom is a beautiful place for RV connoisseurs to shop, and though what we sell brings years of adventures on the road to our customers, the business operation of Vanworks isn’t casual!
Dealerships like ours don’t make it 50 years unless they’re built with rigor and sophistication. Look at our showroom and you’ll see that. Look under the hood and you’ll see why. Our Founder, Keih Hess, has been meticulous in how our vans were crafted, how our team has been built, and how his business has been run since 1978. His son Preston is now involved in day-to-day operations. 2026 has been a year of “new” for us, with Preston starting and a move to our new expanded showroom.
Our needs have grown. This Controller role is a new position. Though we’ve had Accountants on our team, our Controller will be part of the leadership and direction of Vanworks. The successful candidate who becomes our Controller will oversee and be responsible for typical Controller functions including, cash management, financial reporting and analysis, outside reporting, coordination with our external CPA partners, taxes, insurance, claims, licenses, support to management, HR, payroll, and benefits. In addition our Controller will be part of the leadership team of Vanworks, helping us understand financial aspects of strategic decisions we will make.
We’re looking for a Controller who possesses:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Proficiency typically gained by a good 5 years experience as a Controller; dealership experience preferred
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence optimal outcomes with or without line authority
- Proven strengths in managing and mentoring others
- A love for what we do and for the population we sell to - who love the van life and adventures on the road.
- Expertise in cloud-based accounting platforms, ERPs, and Point of Sale systems
- The ability to instill confidence in the owner, leadership, team members, vendors, partners, and all who transact business with Vanworks.
This will not be the right opportunity for those who:
- Like to say “no” a lot, rather than having a curiosity about what the future could hold
- Expect a lot of direction as the impetus to figure out what needs to be done
- Aren’t good at explaining complex accounting and financial matters without sounding like a complex accounting or financial person
- Don’t know how to be appropriately assertive while not getting their feelings hurt by others who are being appropriately assertive
- Can’t anticipate the unspoken and often unanticipated future needs of business owners, management, and team.
Expected Base Pay - $100,000 - 120,000, plus performance-based bonuses.
We will be accepting applications through April 15, 2026.
